2012 Military Families Clinic
HQ4Baseball & Softball wants to show their support of our wonderful military families by sponsoring a baseball and softball clinic on February 18th, 2012. ALL proceeds will go to the Wounded Warriors Project and Operation Homefront of North Carolina.
The clinic will be an opportunity for military families in the area to bring their children to a great skills clinic led by former Major League Baseball player Tony Womack and the great staff of professional coaches at HQ4Baseball & Softball, including HQ4Clippers coaches. Children of military families can participate for FREE. Of course, we hope lots of other families in the area will participate as well. The cost for the 3 hour clinic is $50, with all proceeds going to support our military families.
While most people have heard of the Wounded Warriors Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) and the great work they do to help wounded soldiers and their families, you may not have heard about Operation Homefront of North Carolina. This organization supports North Carolina military families by helping with financial problems, housing, medical problems and more. For more information, visit their website at www.ohfnc.org.
Tony Womack (pictured) had a long MLB career, winning a World Series
Ring with the Diamondbacks in 2001, and also played with the Yankees, the Reds, and the Cubs. He and his wife Janet operate a foundation called Stealing Hearts, which supports child education programs and other worthy causes in the area. For more information about this, go to their website at www.90feet.com.
HQ4Baseball & Softball has been in business since 2004. HQ4 has a Developmental Team program with teams at ages 9 through 15, and Showcase Teams at ages 16 & 17. These HQ4Clippers teams are trained by professional coaches with a system designed to prepare them for successful high school careers and more. HQ4 also operates Summer Camps, Winter Training, private and group lessons, and sponsors the Carolina Challenge Baseball League tournaments each year. Owner Al Dahlgren has been involved with youth sports in Charlotte for over 20 years.
Al met the people at Operation Homefront of North Carolina last fall when some of the HQ4Clippers families got together to sponsor some military families at Christmas through their Adopt a Military Family program. They decided to team up together with this clinic to help raise money for this great cause. Hopefully, this will be the first of many projects to benefit our military families. We hope the readers of the South Charlotte sports Report will support this cause either by attending the clinic on February 18th, or by making a donation.
